Join us for a 50-year Journey of Remembrance and Resilience
In the spring of 2025, the Khmer community and supporters across New England will come together for Proleung Khmer (Khmer Soul): A 50-year Journey of Remembrance and Resilience, a series of events commemorating one of the most profound and defining moments in Khmer history.
On April 17, 1975, the Khmer Genocidal Regime of Pol Pot (1975-1979) took over Phnom Penh and other provincial cities in Cambodia. It forced the population into the countryside, leading to nearly four years of terror and trauma, during which 1.7 to 3 million Khmer people died due to overwork, starvation, disease, and execution. 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of Khmer refugees relocating to the United States after fleeing the regime.
We invite you to stand with us as we honor the lives lost during the Khmer Genocidal Regime of Pol Pot, support survivors, and celebrate the contributions of Khmer Americans. By fostering remembrance and education, "Proleung Khmer" seeks to preserve the Khmer heritage and ensure that future generationsunderstand and remember the sacrifices and achievements of the Khmer Diaspora.

The series will officially launch at the Middlesex Community College’s Federal Building with an inaugural reception including blessing dance, Proleung Khmer previews and presentations. This is a ticketed event. Following this reception, attendees will be invited to continue on to the Boott Mill Event Center to participate in the free Eco-Film Series focused on Khmer individuals and conservation work in Cambodia.
Please consider your involvement in Proleung Khmer. Visit our website to be a sponsor, volunteer and/or help us by promoting these important events to your friends, family and professional networks.
We hope you can be part of this significant milestone and join us in honoring the past while looking to the future with hope.
Our official opening of the events begins with the Launch Party on Tuesday, March 25 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Middlesex Community College, Federal Building, 50 Kearney Square, Lowell.
Our organization relies on the generosity and support from our community. Your optional gift will advance our program to bring the joy of music to more people.
